DE AMSTEL GOLD RACE VERDUBBELT VANAF DE AANKOMENDE EDITIE IN APRIL HET PRIJZENGELD VOOR DE DAMES. DAARNAAST WORDEN DE STARTGELDEN VOOR ALLE PLOEGEN MET BIJNA €10.000,- IN TOTAAL VERHOOGD. DE DERDE EDITIE VAN DE LADIES EDITION WORDT OP 21 APRIL VERREDEN.

“We verdubbelen het prijzengeld voor de vrouwen dit jaar en daar ben ik ontzettend blij mee”, vertelt Leontien Zijlaard-Van Moorsel, koersdirecteur van de Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition. “Het vrouwenwielrennen heeft zich de afgelopen jaren flink ontwikkeld en is professioneler geworden. De Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition heeft de afgelopen twee jaar fantastische koersen gehad met winnaars Anna van der Breggen en Chantal Blaak. De Nederlandse vrouwen staan aan de wereldtop en verdienen deze waardering. Belangrijk is nu om ook de sport in de breedte te laten groeien zodat alle ploegen zich verder kunnen professionaliseren. Om die reden hebben we ook de vergoedingen voor alle vrouwenteams aanzienlijk verhoogd.”

Leo van Vliet, koersdirecteur Amstel Gold Race: “Sinds 2017 wordt de Nederlandse klassieker ook weer door de vrouwen verreden. Dit was al een belangrijke stap in de erkenning van het dameswielrennen. We zetten nu een volgende stap door het prijzengeld te verhogen, de Ladies Edition is belangrijk voor het Amstel Gold Race weekend en wordt ontzettend gewaardeerd door wielerliefhebbers. Ook de provincie Limburg ziet het belang in van de verdere verbetering van het vrouwenwielrennen en verhoogde dit jaar de subsidie van de koers. Zij dragen daarmee bij aan de verhoging van het prijzen- en het startgeld voor de vrouwen. We zijn trots dat we hier samen in kunnen optrekken.”

Live op NOS

Ook dit jaar wordt de damesversie van de Amstel Gold Race live uitgezonden op NOS NPO1. Het parcours blijft nagenoeg gelijk aan 2018, maar ook de startlocatie van de vrouwen verhuist mee naar de Vrijthof in Maastricht. Op hetzelfde podium worden heren- als damesploegen beurtelings voorgesteld. Iets wat nog steeds uniek is in de wielersport.

De Amstel Gold Race wordt zondag 21 april 2019 verreden. De heren starten om 10.30 uur op de Vrijthof in Maastricht. De dames volgen 20 minuten later om 10.50 uur.

AMSTEL GOLD RACE INCREASES THE PRIZE MONEY FOR THE LADIES EDITION

MAASTRICHT, 9 APRIL 2019 – THE AMSTEL GOLD RACE WILL DOUBLE THE PRIZE MONEY FOR THE LADIES FOR THE UPCOMING EDITION IN APRIL. IN ADDITION, THE APPEARANCE MONEY FOR ALL TEAMS HAS BEEN INCREASED BY ALMOST €10,000 IN TOTAL. THE THIRD EDITION OF THE WOMEN’S RACE WILL BE HELD ON APRIL 21ST.

“We are doubling the prize money for the women this year and I am very happy with that”, says Leontien Zijlaard-Van Moorsel, race director of the Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition. “Women’s cycling has developed considerably in recent years and has become more professional. The Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition has had fantastic races in the last two years with winners Anna van der Breggen and Chantal Blaak. Dutch female riders are some of the best and they deserve appreciation. It is now also important to let the sport grow across the board so that all teams can become more professional. For that reason, we have also considerably increased the appearance money for all women’s teams.”

Leo van Vliet, race director Amstel Gold Race: “Since 2017, this Dutch classic race has also been ridden by women. Their participation is, in itself, an important step in the recognition of women’s cycling and we are now taking the next step by increasing the prize money. The Ladies Edition is important for the Amstel Gold Race weekend and is greatly appreciated by cycling enthusiasts. The province of Limburg also recognises the importance of further improving women’s cycling and this year raised the subsidy for the race. Consequently, they have contributed to the increase in both the prize and starting money for women. We are proud that we can work together to make this happen.”

Live on NOS

This year the women’s version of the Amstel Gold Race will also be broadcast live on Dutch television (NOS NPO1). The course will remain virtually the same as in 2018, but the women’s starting location will also move to the Vrijthof in Maastricht. Men’s and women’s teams are presented alternately on the same stage, an arrangement that is still unique in professional cycling.

The Amstel Gold Race will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2019. The men’s race starts at 10.30 am on the Vrijthof in Maastricht. The ladies follow 20 minutes later at 10.50 am.
